How can we help?
Answers to the questions people ask us most. Search, or browse by topic.
Getting started
What is Roomly?
Roomly is an app for finding apartments for rent, rooms in shared apartments, sublets and roommates. Instead of scrolling through Facebook groups and WhatsApp chats, you get real listings with clear prices, filters that work and a match score for each one. About us
Is Roomly free?
Yes. Searching, saving listings, contacting owners and posting a listing are free. The only paid extra is an optional boost that moves a listing or a roommate profile to the top for a while, and short listing boosts are free once a day.
Do I need an account to look around?
No. You can browse listings, search and use the map without signing in. You need an account to save listings, see an owner's contact details, send a message or request, and post a listing.
Where can I use Roomly?
Roomly has listings across Israel, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Beer Sheva, and in New York City, and it keeps growing to new cities. Each price is shown in the listing's own local currency. Browse by city
Is there an app, or do I use the website?
Both. Roomly works in any browser at room-ly.org and as an app for iPhone and Android. Your account, saved listings and messages are the same everywhere.
Which languages is Roomly available in?
English, Hebrew and Spanish. You can switch language at any time in Settings.
What are groups?
Groups are private communities, such as a university or a neighborhood, that you join with an invite code or link. Owners can post a listing to a group only, so just its members see it in their search and feed.
Finding a place
How do I search for an apartment or a room?
Swipe through the listings picked for you, or open Search and filter by city, price, number of rooms and move-in date. You can also browse listings on the map. Start searching
How does the match score work?
It compares a listing with what you told us you are looking for: location, budget and move-in date matter most, then things like smoking, pets, kosher, and must-haves such as an elevator, parking or furniture. A clear dealbreaker keeps the score low. Keep your profile preferences up to date for better matches.
Open the listing and tap Message owner to chat in Roomly. The + button shows any other ways the owner added, such as phone, WhatsApp, Instagram or email. Some listings imported from partner sites have no chat, so use the owner's other contact options there. You need to be signed in to see contact details.
Can I save listings to look at later?
Yes. Save any listing and it goes to your Saved list, which stays in your account on every device. You need to be signed in to save. My saved listings
Can Roomly tell me when a new listing matches what I want?
Yes. When a new listing is posted in one of your cities and fits your budget, we can send you a notification so you hear about it early. Set your cities and budget in your profile and allow notifications.
Can I ask to visit an apartment?
Yes. On many listings you can request a visit: pick a day and a time slot and add a short message. It opens a chat with the owner, and you are notified when they approve or decline.
Roommates
How do I find a roommate on Roomly?
Tap + and choose List your profile. Add a photo, a few words about yourself, your budget, your move-in date and your lifestyle, and you show up in roommate search. Then browse other profiles, filter by what matters to you, and like the ones that fit. List your profile
Which roommate filters are there?
Besides budget and move-in date, you can filter by things like smoking, pets, diet, sleep schedule, noise, cleanliness, guests, languages and Shabbat observance. If nobody fits every filter, Roomly shows you the closest matches.
What should roommates agree on before moving in?
Rent split, bills, cleaning, guests, quiet hours and what happens if someone leaves early. Writing it down saves a lot of arguments later. Our guide walks you through each point. Read the roommate agreement guide
How can roommates split shared expenses?
Use Roomly Split. Add shared costs like rent, bills and groceries, split them equally or your own way, and see who owes whom. You can scan a receipt to add it, share chores, and import your history from Splitwise. Open Roomly Split
Posting a listing
How do I post a listing?
Tap +, choose a whole apartment or a room, and whether it is a long-term rental or a sublet. Add up to 10 photos and 2 videos, the price, the dates and a phone number or Instagram so people can reach you, then publish. It is free. Post a listing
I already wrote my ad somewhere else. Do I have to type it again?
No. Paste the text of your existing ad and Roomly fills in the details for you, such as the price, rooms, dates and address. Check them, add photos and publish.
How do I edit my listing or take it down?
Edit it from My listings. When you find someone, open the listing and mark it as rented so people stop contacting you, or delete it from the edit page. About once a month we also send a quick message asking whether an older listing is still available. My listings
Can I rent out a sublet by the night?
Yes. When you post a sublet, you can price it for the whole period or per night. Per night, you set a nightly price and, if you want, a weekend price, a minimum stay and which dates are open.
How can more people see my listing?
Good photos, a clear price and an honest description make the biggest difference. You can also boost a listing to the top of the feed and search results: a 2-hour boost is free once a day, sharing your listing earns a free 4-hour boost, and longer boosts of 24 to 72 hours are paid.
Can I cancel a paid boost?
Yes. Email us within 14 days of the purchase and at least 2 business days before the boost starts. Refunds are made within 14 days, and a small fee may apply. The cancellation policy has the full details. Read the cancellation policy
Short stays
How do I book a short stay?
On a listing priced by the night, pick your dates and the number of guests. You see the price of each night and the total, then tap Request to book. The host approves or declines, and you can follow your requests in My bookings. My bookings
How do I pay for a stay?
Roomly does not take payment for stays. After the host approves your request, they contact you to arrange payment. The price breakdown on the listing shows any fees before you send a request.
Is my check-out day counted as a night?
No. You pay for the nights you sleep there. A stay from 11 September to 15 September is four nights.
Can I cancel a booking request?
While your request is still waiting for the host, you can cancel it yourself from My bookings. Once it is approved, contact us and we will help you change or cancel it. Contact support
Safety and trust
How do I avoid rental scams?
Never pay a deposit or rent before you have seen the place, in person or on a live video call, and checked who owns it. Be careful with prices far below the area, owners who are "abroad", and pressure to pay fast. Our guide lists the warning signs. Read the scam guide
How do I report a listing that looks fake?
Open the listing, tap its menu and choose Report. Pick a reason, such as scam or fraud, spam or inappropriate content, and our team reviews it. You need to be signed in to report.
Someone is bothering me. Can I block them?
Yes. Block or report them from your chat with them or from their profile. Blocked people cannot message you and are hidden from your feed. You can see and undo blocks under Blocked users in your profile. My profile
Who can see my phone number and email?
The email you sign in with is never shown to other users. Contact details appear only where you add them to a listing or your profile, and only signed-in users can see them. Chatting in Roomly lets you talk to people without sharing your number.
Account and notifications
How do I sign in? Do I need a password?
No password needed. Enter your email and we send you a 6-digit code, or continue with Google or Apple. The same steps create an account if you do not have one yet.
I did not get my sign-in code. What now?
Check your spam or promotions folder, make sure the email address is spelled right, and ask for a new code. If it still does not arrive, contact support: we can give you a support code to sign in with. Contact support
How do I turn notifications or emails on or off?
Go to Settings. There you can turn email notifications on or off, and in the Roomly app also push notifications. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom too. Open Settings
How do I delete my account?
Go to your profile, open the settings section and choose Delete account, then type DELETE to confirm. Your account and your listings are removed. My profile
